Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 2 – September 26, 2018 – Stafford Speedway

Round 2 of the Contender series saw 49 drivers show up at Stafford to battle for 150 laps, and the field would be split up into two separate races.

Race 1 Summary – Keith Medeiros moved up to lead the field to green in Race 1 when Logan Clampitt missed the grid, which allowed Medeiros to dominate most of the race. He held the top spot, holding off a number of drivers who ran in the 2nd spot throughout the race, but as the laps starting winding down, Clampitt had worked his way back forward. Clampitt was able to hang beside Medeiros for the lead after a lap 141 restart, and had a nose ahead when another caution came out and was scored the leader, giving him his 2nd Contender win.

Race 2 Summary – In Race 2, it was Brad Mahar who started out front and enjoyed a comfortable lead for much of the race. After a lap 94 restart, Mahar jumped back out front but when the race would go green to the finish, a couple others were closing in on him during the long run to the finish. Brandon Wilkinson was the first to close the gap and made his move with 7 laps to go, as the two drivers made contact, and Wilkinson would come out on the other side with the lead and hist first career SARA win.

Hard Chargers – Travis McKinney (Race 1, +10 pos.), Devon Morgan (Race 2, +17 pos.)

Pole Winner – Logan Clampitt (18.724 seconds)

Points Battle – Logan Clampitt leads the standings after two rounds, but after being called up to being a Super Series Only driver, Brandon Wilkinson sits as the next guy in line to inherit the points lead (prior to last night’s race).
