Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 5 – October 24, 2018 – Richmond Raceway

The Contender Series made their first ever trip to Richmond last Wednesday night, with 48 drivers being split up into two separate 110-lap features.

Race 1 Summary – Keith Medeiros led the field to green, but Andrew Graham was able to make his move early and led lap 1. From there the two would pull away from the field until Medeiros looked back under Graham on lap 46 to retake the top spot. Graham attempted the crossover but couldn’t make it stick. Medeiros would go on to dominate the second half of the race and crossed under the checkered flag with a 3.6 second gap for his 4th career SARA win.

Race 2 Summary – Race 2 went caution free for the entire race, which allowed Brandon Wilkinson and Brad Mahar to pull away early on, while 3rd on back began to fall behind. Wilkinson held the lead from his first starting position, but Mahar wouldn’t let him go that easily. The two stayed within a handful of car lengths all night, but despite being about even, Mahar was never able to complete a move for the lead. Wilkinson went on to lead all 110 laps for his 2nd win of the season.

Hard Chargers – Devon Morgan (Race 1, +16 pos.), Gareth Gonder (Race 2, +7 pos.)

Pole Winner – Keith Medeiros (20.896 seconds)

Points Battle – After his victory, Brandon Wilkinson leads the standings by 13 points over Devon Morgan.

Up Next – After having to postpone the previous race, the Contender Series returns this week for a Fall Brawl tune-up at Five Flags.
