Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 8 – April 10, 2019 – Oxford Plains Speedway

Last Wednesday the Contender Series took on the 3/8-mile oval of Oxford Plains for a pair of 150 lap races.

Race 1 Summary – Adam Josselyn inherited control of the start and led the first 7 laps before Ryan Blanchard moved into the top spot. Blanchard led the next 53 laps but it was James Mihlbachler who chased him down during a long green flag run, and made the move on the low side to take over. Mihlbachler pulled away during the run until a couple of late yellows erased the gap out front, but he would hold off the field on the late restarts and picked up his 2nd win of the season.

Race 2 Summary – Chris Canfield started at the front and held the lead through the first half of the race. As the laps neared the halfway point, the battle up front heated up. Samuel Roush got to the outside of Canfield for the lead, while Evan Sorensen and Fred Moreau were right there as well as they battled two-by-two. However on lap 76, contact amongst the leaders resulted with Roush and Moreau heading into the infield, while in turn three Canfield made a mistake and slid up, allowing Sorensen to take advantage of it all to take away the lead. Over the second half of the race, Sorensen pulled away and went on to pick up his 3rd victory of the season.

Hard Chargers – Russell Brown Jr. (Race 1, +7 pos.), Magnum Tate (Race 2, +11 pos.)

Pole Winner – Keith Medeiros (13.884 seconds)

Points Battle – Despite missing the race, drop weeks helped Riley Stenjem maintain the points lead by 21 points in the standings heading into tonight’s races at Stafford.
