30 drivers brought their Super Late Models out for the season opener for the RB Performance SLM Series. It would be Jim Caudill Jr. that would take the pole at Richmond, nearly two tenths faster than the second place qualifier, Camaron Manis. Caudill would jump out to the early lead and looked to be the class of the field as everyone else settled in behind him. Despite 8 cautions, there was plenty of clean hard racing to be seen around the track as drivers would test their cars to see how hard the could drive them. It wasn’t until lap 60 that Caudill would surrender his lead to Tyler Breeding who started 3rd on the night. From there, Breeding would go on to hold off Manis on multiple restarts, including the final one with just 5 laps to go. Manis stayed glued to the back bumper of the #18, but it would be Breeding that would come around to take the checkered flag in the first race of the inaugural SARA SLM season. Manis would take home 2nd, followed by Joey Doiron who came from the last starting spot in the field, with Ty Spearman and Matt Rolfe rounding out the top 5.

Next week the SLM series heads to Irwindale for 150 laps.
