This past Tuesday the Callaway Investments & Midwest Powersource Sportsman Series ran a double feature for the second week in a row, this time with the Sportsman Street Stocks taking on the Southern National Motorsports Park for Twin 50-lap features.
Race 1 Winner – Trevor Edwards took the lead early and led 43 laps for his 13th career SARA win.
Race 1 Summary – Kyle Souza started on the pole after the Pole Handicap moved him to the front, but he immediately felt pressure from behind as Trevor Edwards was looking to get by. Edwards set out to the outside to gain momentum and made the pass from the outside groove on lap 8, and from there he never looked back. Four cautions throughout the race allowed the field to catch up but there was no match for Edwards as he went on to take the win.
Race 2 Winner – Ty Spearman used some cautions to work his forward and into the lead with 12 laps to go for his 25th career SARA win.
Race 2 Summary – A full 10-car invert after Race 1 brought Clay Snider up to the front of the field for Race 2 on the night. Snider led much of the night, facing some challenges on the restarts but was able to hold off Drew Kriebich and others throughout the night. But with each caution, Ty Spearman was working his way forward and was able to get a nose under Snider on lap 37, and he would hold off the field on one last restart for the victory.
SS Title Fight – Two top five finishes for Joe Schaffer Jr. moves him to the top of the standings with one race remaining, and when drop races get factored in after the Fall Brawl, Schaffer is expected to remain in the points lead.
Combined Title Fight – Schaffer also moves to the top of the overall combined points standings between the Street Stocks and Late Models, and is expected to keep the points lead after drops as well.
Up Next – The regular season for the Sportsman Series will return in December after a couple weeks off, but both cars in the series will be on track next week in the H&H Sign Supply Fall Brawl Spectacular.
