Last Thursday night, the TUNDRA Super Sim Series, presented by the TUNDRA Super Late Models, ran a 125-lap feature event at New Smyrna in the JVM Racing 125. The race marked the series’ first visit to the track since June of 2016.

Race Winner – Joe Schaffer Jr. worked his way by Kyle Souza on lap 50, and held on for the final 76 laps to pick up his 2nd win of the season.

Race Summary -Kyle Souza started up front after a 7-car invert, and looked strong early on as he held off Joe Schaffer Jr. just as the race’s first cation flew on lap 41. But after the restart, Schaffer put the pressure back on and this time was able to clear Souza and pulled out to a 4 second gap while the race went green until the second caution on lap 109. Schaffer was able to hold off Trevor Edwards and David Krikorian in the final laps, to take his 36th career SARA win, coming at a clutch time with just 2 more races in the season.

Pole Award – Ty Spearman added his first pole in over a year with a lap of 16.450 seconds.

Hard Charger – Newcomer Brandon Coppinger scored a top ten finish in his first start, gaining 13 positions on the night.

Rookie of the Race – Jimmy Mullis ran inside the top five for most of the night before finishing in the 5th position.

Title Fight – With the win, Joe Schaffer Jr. extends his points lead up to 21 points over David Krikorian with just two races remaining on the season.

Up Next – The series will visit Myrtle Beach Speedway this week, for a 152-lap triple crown event for the Area 52 Designs 152.
