Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 8 – July 11, 2018 – Myrtle Beach Speedway

Last time the Contender Series was on track, they took on Myrtle Beach under the lights for 150-laps. With 39 cars entered, the field was split up into two splits.

Race 1 Summary – In Race 1 it was Daniel Williamson that led the field to the green flag, but it didn’t take long for Ryan Doucette to start putting the pressure on for the race lead. Doucette would look to the outside early on lap 18 and made it stick, working his way around into the lead. For the remainder of the race, Doucette would pull away and dominated the race for his 4th win of the season. Michael Goddard, Justin LaDuke, Chris Canfield, and Brian Helm rounded out the top five.

Race 2 Summary – In Race 2, it was a battle of attrition at the front of the field. Jason K Miller led early before Derek Robinson got by, but in the second half of the race the intensity picked up, resulting in a number of lead changes, and incidents up front. Robinson, Gareth Gonder, Keith Medeiros and Tyler Price each led laps in the late stages but ended up getting collected in incidents, allowing Miller to work his way back up into the lead and into victory lane for his first career win. Kyle Souza, Russell Brown Jr., Robinson and Jason Benoit rounded out the top five.

Hard Chargers – Chris Canfield (Race 1, +13 pos.), Alex French (Race 2, +9 pos.).

Pole Winner – Daniel Williamson (18.634 seconds)

Points Battle – After drop races, Ryan Doucette has taken over the points lead by just 6 points over Evan Sorensen with just four races left on the schedule.
