McCollum, Clampitt, LaDuke Open Contender Series With Wins

Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 1 – September 19, 2018 – USA Int’l Speedway

The opening round of the Contender Series saw 62 drivers hit the track at USA last Wednesday night, and would be split up into three separate races for 125 laps each.

Race 1 Summary – Newcomer Alex McCollum picked up the pole in Qualifying which put him at the front of Race 1, but he would give up the lead early to Dallas Pataska. But as the run went on, and Pataska fell off, McCollum rebounded to retake the lead, and went on to pick up his first career SARA win.

Race 2 Summary – In Race 2, Samuel Roush jumped to the early lead and looked strong in the first half of the race. But in the second half he began facing pressure from Logan Clampitt who would eventually take over the lead on lap 73. Roush would challenge for the lead a couple more times, but Clampitt held on to pick up his first career SARA win.

Race 3 Summary – In Race 3, Keith Medeiros led the field to the green flag and pulled away during the early runs. However on a lap 38 restart he would slip up and get loose, allowing Justin LaDuke to get to his inside. LaDuke would lead the rest of the way, but only held on by a couple car lengths over Medeiros for his 3rd career win.

Hard Chargers – Matt Eddy (Race 1, +11 pos.), Jerry Glenn (Race 2, +9 pos.), Scott Dunlap (Race 3, +10 pos.)

Pole Winner – Alex McCollum (19.911 seconds)

Points Battle – With three different winners and multiple drivers with strong runs making it close atop the standings, Alex McCollum holds the lead by 3 points.
