Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 11 – August 8, 2018 – Martinsville Speedway

This past week the Contender Series took on Martinsville and over 30 cars were split up into a pair of 150-lap features

Race 1 Summary – Points leader Evan Sorensen started out front in Race 1 and held onto the lead throughout the first half of the race, with Tyler Price keeping him close. Price would eventually take away the top on lap 73, but he too would have a battle on his hands as AJ Rogers was tailing him for the remainder of the race. Rogers looked to have a strong car, but just couldn’t find a way by, and Price would go on to pick up his 3rd win of the season. Rogers, Sorensen, Donald Clark and Chris Canfield rounded out the top five.

Race 2 Summary – In Race 2, it looked like it was going to be a dominating night for Justin LaDuke as he held a sizable lead at times throughout the race. But as the laps counted down, Keith Medeiros was slowly closing the gap and was looking to make a move but some cautions would fly. On a lap 134 restart, both leaders stepped on the gas trying to get a good jump, but both would spin the tires and contact would see both drivers facing the wrong direction in front of the field while Russell Charneski slipped by into the lead. Charneski held on over the final 17 laps to pick up his first Contender win. Ryan Doucette, LaDuke, Gareth Gonder and Jarrad Wakefield rounded out the top five.

Hard Chargers – Russell Brown Jr. (Race 1, +9 pos.), Scott Dunlap & Mark Hertzog (Race 2, +6 pos.).

Pole Winner – Evan Sorensen (19.709 seconds)

Points Battle – Another top three for Evan Sorensen keeps him atop the standings by 29 points and looks to have everything locked up (unofficially) for his first SARA title.

Up Next – The Contender Series will wrap up their first season at Lanier for 200 laps.
