Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 5 – March 20, 2019 – Irwindale Speedway Inner

Last week over 40 Super Late Models took on Irwindale for the first of two times this season, with a pair of 150 lap races on the Inner 1/3-mile configuration of the track.

Race 1 Summary – Samuel Roush took the lead from Chris Canfield in the early stages of the race, but the real battle started after the lap 106 restart. Canfield got a good jump from the outside groove to steal the lead, but Roush battled back and the two fought for the top spot before some contact nearly sent Roush around, dropping him back to 4th. Canfield attempted to run and hide, but Roush made another charge over the final 20 laps and made his move into the lead with just 7 laps to go, rebounding to take his second victory of the season.

Race 2 Summary – Race 2 saw a couple early incidents and a red flag on lap 30 (pace car glitch), but when the race resumed, Justin LaDuke was out front and in control. The final restart of the race came just after halfway, leading to a 65-lap green flag run to the finish. During that run while LaDuke held a comfy lead, Riley Stenjem was charging through the pack after an early incident, and set his sights on the leader with about 30 to go. Just 10 laps later, Stenjem had chased down LaDuke who had to concede the position, and Stenjem would lead the final 20 laps on his way to a 4th victory on the season.

Hard Chargers – Mark Royer (Race 1, +9 pos.), Jarrid Boiros & Magnum Tate (Race 2, +8 pos. each)

Pole Winner – Keith Medeiros (13.140 seconds)

Points Battle – Riley Stenjem holds a 36 point lead in the standings over Justin LaDuke heading into tonight’s race at The Milwaukee Mile.
