Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 5 – June 20, 2018 – Oxford Plains Speedway

Last Wednesday night, a total of 48 driver unloaded their Super Late Models at Oxford Plains, and would be split up into a pair of 150-lap features for the 5th round of the season for the Contender Series.

Race 1 Summary – In Race 1, Landon Sciacca set a fast pace early on as he pulled away out front during the opening run. But he would make a mistake on lap 82 that dropped him back to 5th. Evan Sorensen would take over out front shortly after following a restart but Sciacca would charge back up to retake the lead on lap 136. However Sorensen wasn’t done as he gathered himself back up, and made his move to the inside with just three laps to go and gained the advantage to pick up his first SARA win. Gareth Gonder, Brandon Wilkinson, Kyle Souza, and AJ Rogers rounded out the top five.

Race 2 Summary – In Race 2, Derek Robinson worked his way past Drew Kreibich, and looked to have control of things throughout the first half of the race. But behind him, Ryan Doucette was recovering from a near spin and worked his way up to second. Doucette chased down Robinson and took the lead but it wasn’t without a fight as the two battled for 25 laps before Doucette eventually pulled away for the victory. Robinson, Dante Curtis, Jarrid Boiros, and Russell Charneski rounded out the top five.

Hard Chargers – Alan Pajari (Race 1, +16), Brian Helm (Race 2, +11).

Pole Winner – Landon Sciacca (15.360 seconds)

Points Battle – After three runner-up finishes this season, Evan Sorensen’s victory keeps him atop the standings by just 7 points after five races on the season.
