Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 7 – April 3, 2019 – Bristol Motor Speedway

Last Wednesday, nearly 50 Super Late Models unloaded at the high backs of The Last Great Colosseum for a pair of 150 lap feature events.

Race 1 Summary – Riley Stenjem added another pole and lead the opening 14 laps of the race. But it appeared as he would have a tight handling car early on, and surrendered the lead to Evan Sorensen on lap 15. From there Sorensen controlled much of the race, enjoying a comfortable lead for most of the race. However Mark Johnson bounced back from some early incidents and put the pressure on for the lead over the final 30 lap run. Sorensen would defend the charge, and eventually extended the gap in the closing laps to add his 2nd win of the season.

Race 2 Summary – Justin LaDuke grabbed the top spot from Fred Moreau on lap 1, but about a dozen laps later, Moreau retook the lead and managed to pull away from the field during some early runs. Just prior to the halfway break, a multicar incident at the front of the field took out a number of drivers, and one beneficiary was Davey Lamont who moved up to 3rd, which gave him the track position to battle up front. Lamont closed in on Moreau for the lead, dove to the bottom for a few laps, and had a nose ahead just as a caution flew on lap 84 to take over the lead. After that, Lamont was able to keep the advantage over Moreau, and pulled away for his first career SARA victory.

Hard Chargers – Jerry Glenn & Michael Winn (Race 1, +10 pos.), Paul Morgan Jr. (Race 2, +14 pos. each)

Pole Winner – Riley Stenjem (13.551 seconds)

Points Battle – Leaving Bristol, and with drop races being factored into the standings, Riley Stenjem hangs onto his points lead by 17 points heading into Oxford.
