Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 1 – February 13, 2019 – USA International Speedway

On Wednesday night, a total of 47 drivers unloaded their Super Late Models at USA, and were split up into a pair of 119 lap races to kick off the 2019 Spring Season.

Race 1 Summary – Riley Stenjem scored the overall pole for the night, which put him on point for Race 1. He quickly jumped out to a lead of over 1 second on each of the first two green flag runs. After a couple later cautions, Sean Hatfield moved up to 2nd to challenge, but after a few laps Stenjem extended the gap once again as he went on to dominate the race, leading all 119 laps for his first career SARA win.

Race 2 Summary – In Race 2, Gareth Gonder started at the front of the field, and after a couple early cautions, the field settled in for a long green flag run and Gonder slowly began stretching the gap over Evan Sorensen. Gonder looked to be on his way to victory, until a late caution erased that gap. On the lap 109 restart, Gonder was able to regain the lead, but Sorensen got a run down the backstretch and pulled to the inside going into turn three, and came out with the race lead. Sorensen held off the field on one last restart, and scored his 5th career SARA win.

Hard Chargers – Theodore Burns (Race 1, +12 pos.), Adam Josselyn (Race 2, +10 pos.)

Pole Winner – Riley Stenjem (19.799 seconds)

Points Battle – After Round 1, Riley Stenjem leaves USA with a slim 1 point lead heading into next week’s races at Iowa.
