Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 2 – May 23, 2018 – Stafford Motor Speedway

The Contender Series traveled up to New England to the Stafford Motor Speedway this past Wednesday night. With 55 drivers on hand, the field was split up into two features for 150 laps each.

Race 1 Summary – Justin Trombley set the fast time in qualifying which put him on the pole of Race 1. He held a strong lead throughout the first half of the race, but during the second half it wasn’t so easy. Jarrid Boiros was able to hang within a few car lengths as the race wound down, but couldn’t make a move. Trombley would end up leading all 150 laps for his first SARA win. Boiros, Daniel Williamson, Jason Tarasenko, and Michael Goddard rounded out the top five.

Race 2 Summary – For the second feature, Blake Hamilton led the opening 34 laps of the race before Evan Sorensen worked his way into the lead from the outside on a restart. Shortly after on a green flag run, Derek Robinson was able to chase down Sorensen and used a bit of the apron to take over the top spot. Robinson would hold off the field for the final 87 laps for his 26th career SARA win. Sorensen, Gareth Gonder, Adam Josselyn, and Matt Vaade rounded out the top five.

Hard Chargers – Chris Canfield (Race 1, +12, 20th to 8th), Mark Hertzog (Race 2, +15, 25th to 10th).

Pole Winner – Justin Trombley (18.552 seconds)

Points Battle – Robinson and Sorensen finished 1-2 in Race 2, which puts them both at the top of the standings, tied with 200 points each.

Up Next – This upcoming Wednesday night the Contender Series will battle at New Smyrna for 150 laps.
