The Dirt Late Model Series ran the first league race on the dirt configuration of USA this past Wednesday night in the 75-lap Lakeland Showdown.
Race Winner – After an incident amongst the leaders early in the race, Zak Rounds benefitted and took over the race lead on lap 5. Rounds would spend much of the race holding off Ty Spearman who made a number of attempts to get by, but Rounds wouldn’t make any mistakes and held on to take the victory, for his first career SARA win.
Heat Winners – AJ Bower and Kenneth Drake each started on the pole of their Heat Races and held on to pick up the wins.
Hard Charger – Chad Detillier finished at the back of his heat race, but then gained 8 spots in the feature to finish in 8th.
Biggest Losers – Travis McKinney had an impressive Heat Race and then started on the pole after the Pole Shuffle, but a lap 5 incident dropped him back for a 17th place finish.
Title Fight – Ty Spearman battled for the race lead for most of the night before running out of gas on the last lap, but still finished high enough to maintain his points lead by 11 points heading into next week’s race at Williams Grove.
