The K&N Pro Series returned back to oval racing in last night’s event at the Irwindale Speedway, after tacking the tricky VIR Road Course last week.

Week 1’s winner, Lee Ball would make a return to the series for the first time since his win at Phoenix, and he would look strong out of the gate. He picked up the pole and chose the outside lane on the start, leaving points leader Matt Rolfe pinched down in the inside groove.

The action started early though as Rolfe and Sean Medling would tangle in the early laps for the only caution of the race. After the restart, Ball would jump back out to the rest of the field settled in to see what they had.

Justin Brooks, who picked up the two previous K&N oval victories, would work from his 8th starting position up to the back bumper of the leader. He would struggle to make the pass for a few laps, but eventually would take over the lead on lap 39 and wouldn’t look back. He would pick up his third victory of the season.

Ball would hang on to 2nd, with Mike Belanger having a quiet run to finish 3rd, with Clay Snider and Ken Belanger finishing out the top 5.

Rolfe would finish 7th on the night, which would shrink his points lead down to 18 points, but with drop weeks coming into effect starting next week, look for the standings to get shaken up at the top.

Next week the series heads to the final road course on the schedule at Watkins Glen. For full results and standings, click HERE.
