The NEO Racing News Legends League headed to Japan for a 12 lap event, at the Okayama Short course. The field would head into the evening with the points standings sitting at a tie for the lead, between Ronald Williams and Matt Rolfe.

Williams would set the quick time in qualifying, nearly 8 tenths faster than second place, Joshua Kotten. And Williams wouldn’t hesitate on the start and pulled out to an early lead.

With the race in control, Williams pulled out to over a 7 second lead over Kotten, before a mistake on lap 8 would see the leader lose control. This left the door open for Kotten to take over the top spot.

Behind the two of them, the rest of the top 5 would see a great battle as Steve Richardson would settle into third, with Clay Snider and Jason Garrett duking it out for 4th and 5th.

It wasn’t over up front though as Williams worked his way back up to the back of Kotten, and on the last two laps, the two of them would battle it out for the win. But it would be Kotten that would keep it clean, and hang on for his first career SARA victory. Richardson would be able to get by Williams as they finished 2nd and 3rd with Garrett, and Snider rounding out the top 5 as all cars were on the same straightaway at the finish.

With Williams 3rd place finish, and Rolfe not making the trip to Japan, Williams would take over a commanding points lead by 94 points, but with drop weeks coming into play later in the season, the battle is anything but over for the top spot.

Next week the series heads to Oxford Plains Speedway for 50 laps. Full results and standings can be found HERE.
