The NEORacingNews.com Legends League headed to Charlotte, North Carolina for a double header night as the series has reached its half way point though the season. The first race would see the legends tackle the infield road course for a 15 lap shootout, with the night cap being on the legends oval for 60 laps.

Matt Rolfe would take the pole by a full second on the road course over Joshua Kotten in second. Rolfe wouldn’t waste any time jumping out front on the drop of the green flag as the field battled behind him. Kotten and point leader Ronald Williams would hold a fierce battle for second place as the two cars would swap the position multiple times, with both cars losing control or going off track at some point during the race.

No one would have anything for Rolfe though as he quickly paced the field and took home the checkers by 12 seconds, over Kotten who would beat out Williams over the final couple of laps for 2nd place.  Patick Hahe and Jarrett Lawrence would finish out the top 5.

The drivers and teams would then bring their cars over to the legends oval on the front stretch of the Charlotte Motor Speedway for a 60 lap race. As the track got dark and the lights came on, Brandon Osborne would earn himself the pole over Williams by .033.

As the race got under way, Osborne would take the early lead as Williams and Rolfe would battle it out for second place. Osborne and Williams would pull away though, even with a couple restarts mixed in, as the two drivers looked to have a great battle on their hands that they looked to carry on to the finish.

But on lap 38, the two drivers would make contact as they came out of turn 4, sending both cars into the wall right in front of the field, collecting others behind them. But it would be Rolfe and Clay Snider that would make their way through the carnage to take the top two spots. The two drivers would see a couple more restarts before the end of the race, with the last one coming with just 3 laps to go.

Snider seemed to be getting great restarts on the outside through the first couple attempts at the restart, but on the final one Rolfe would get the better jump and would clear Snider out of turn 2. Snider would hold off the field behind him, but it would be Rolfe that would cross the finish line first, picking up the sweep of the evening’s double header events. Snider finished 2nd, with Williams rebounding to finish 3rd after restarting 5th on the final restart. Kotten and Lawrence would round out the top 5.

With Rolfe’s sweep, he would jump to the point lead over Williams by just 3 points, or just 1 position over the season’s first 7 races. Next week the series makes their first trip to Langley for 40 laps.
