Schaffer Reaches Silver Status With 25th Career Win

Last night the Dunleavy’s Modified Series kicked off a full week of racing at Southern National with a 125-lap feature event. Joe Schaffer Jr. scored a new track record in qualifying with a lap of 12.331 seconds. After the 8-car invert, Matt Eddy led the field to the green but it was Michael Baxter who led early, before the outside groove became a factor when Christian Pedersen drove around the outside to take over the lead on lap 22. Pedersen would hold off a couple attempts from Schaffer and Bill Martin for the race lead up until 15 laps to go when Schaffer ducked to the inside entering turn one, and came around the next lap with the lead. Schaffer would hold off the field on the final restart, and came around to grab his first Modified Series win of the season, and his 25th career SARA victory.

With the season’s first drop race being factored into the season, Bill Martin leaves Southern National entering the off-week with a 31 point lead in the standings.
