On Thursday night, The Button Box Shop Super Series returned to the spotlight with a 125 lap race at the Richmond Int’l Raceway in the Dean’s Satellite & Security 125. For the third straight season at least 40 drivers attempted to qualify for the season opener with 30 cars qualifying for the feature.

Race Winner – Early in the race, it was the Wheelin N Dealin teammates of Tim Bills, Trey Jarrell and David Krikorian that ran at the front of the field, but it was Christian Challiner that would One Up them and took the lead on lap 55. From there Challiner would be strong, quickly pulling out to a big lead on restarts which made it tough for others to challenge, and he would go on to lead the final 71 laps to get his first career victory in his SARA debut.

Pole Award – Derek Holzhausen continued his strong qualifying performances, picking up his 14th career SARA pole (10th pole in the past three seasons) with a lap of 20.122 seconds.

Hard Charger – Scott Dunlap needed a provisional to make the race and started from the 28th starting spot, and made steady progress towards the top ten and would miss it by .001 seconds but finished 11th, ganging 17 spots on the night.

Biggest Losers – Trey Jarrell qualified 3rd on the night and led early but faced connection issues, meanwhile Matt Rolfe started 8th but would get caught up in a couple incidents, leaving both drivers finishing 21 spots behind their starting spots.

Rookie of the Race – Christian Challiner came out of the gate strong and he was able to pick up the victory in his first SARA start.

Title Fight – Challiner’s victory puts him as the early points leader, but we’ll see if the newcomer can keep up this pace for the whole season competing against some of the veterans of SARA.
