The Button Box Shop Super Series took on the Iowa Speedway this past Thursday night in the Lions Club International 100. A total or 41 cars would attempt to qualify for the 100-lap feature, with just three races remaining on the schedule.

Race Winner – Early in the race, points leader Christian Challiner took over the lead while his title challenger in Adam Benefiel was also making his way towards the front. The two would battle up front around the halfway point in the race, including a side-by-side fight for a number of laps before Challiner would regain the advantage. However as those two fought, Tyler Hudson turned it up a notch in the second half of the race and ran them down getting by Benefiel on lap 80, and then reeled in Challiner up front. As the two ran side-by-side for the lead as the laps wound down, Hudson would nose ahead for just a moment right as the final caution flag would fly, scoring Hudson as the leader and the race winner.

Pole Award – Derek Holzhausen improved his track record for his 5th pole of the season, with a lap of 21.966 seconds.

Hard Charger – Paul Fugate started dead last on the field and stayed out of trouble to score a top 15 finish, gaining 16 spots on the night.

Rookie of the Race – Tyler Hudson scored the victory over fellow rookies Challiner and Benefiel to be the rookie of the race. Challiner leads the Rookie standings with two races remaining.

Other Notables – Four of the top five finishers were all Rookies, with the only SARA veteran being David Krikorian in 4th. Dallas Pataska scored his first career top five finish in 5th. The race’s first and only lucky dog was awarded on lap 77 to a Brian Helm who was 54 laps down at the time (#randomfact).

Title Fight – With Challiner and Benefiel finishing in 2nd and 3rd respectively, the points battle remains tight but the lead grows up to 7 points for Challiner with two races remaining.

Up Next – The Super Series will head out West to Irwindale for a 150-lap feature next week for the penultimate race of the season.
