Last Thursday night the TUNDRA Super Sim Series, powered by TUNDRA Super Late Models, completed the west coast leg of their season with the Irwindale 150 presented by T4X Racing. This event, number #6 on the season, marks the halfway point for the 2017 Fall Season.

Race Winner – David Krikorian overcame a 9-car invert and late challenges from Matt Rolfe, to win his second race of the season and his 29th career SARA victory.

Race Summary – Matt Eddy would lead the field to green and set the pace for the early portion of the 150 lap event. Before long, Matt Rolfe and Joe Schaffer Jr. would be vying for the top spot. Rolfe would make his move on a restart bringing Schaffer Jr. with him utilizing the low line. Rolfe would lead the field briefly before handing the lead to Schaffer Jr. Schaffer Jr. would pull away by 3 seconds before a long run allowed David Krikorian to work thru traffic. Krikorian would clear Schaffer Jr. with about 75 laps to go, and never look back. Matt Rolfe, Tyler Hudson, and Adam Benefiel would serve as Krikorian’s biggest competition in the later stages of the race. Hudson would finish the night in the top five, however, Benefiel and Rolfe would tangle with 5 laps to go, allowing Tim Bills and Joe Schaffer Jr. to snag spots on the podium, while Rolfe and Benefiel were relegated to finishing spots outside of the top ten.

Pole Award – Ty Majeski went two for two on the season with a fast time of 16.705 seconds for his 88th career SARA pole.

Hard Charger – Kyle Souza started back in the 23rd spot, and finished inside the top ten in 8th, gaining 15 positions.

Rookie of the Race – In his first race, Michael Goddard scored a top ten finish as the highest rookie in 10th.

Title Fight – Despite being spun out with 25 to go, Joe Schaffer Jr. would use timely cautions and some patience to work his way back into the top five with a 3rd place finish. Schaffer Jr. gave up some ground, but still holds a 37 point lead over David Krikorian.

Up Next – This week the Super Sim Series heads back up to the northeast for a 150 lap race at the Oxford Plains Speedway
