The TUNDRA Super Sim Series presented by LOKOTOCO Designs began their 13th season of racing on Thursday night, with the running of the Area 52 Designs 152 Super Late Model feature at Five Flags Speedway. A new SARA record of 62+ cars attempted to qualify in time trials, but just 30 cars would take the green flag for the 152-lap race.

Race Winner – Jimmy Mullis was able to lead 105 laps behind the wheel of his No. 40, and he took down the victory in the opening race of the season. The win was the second career in SARA for Mullis, and comes as a redemption win after nearly winning the Fall Brawl at the track last season.

Race Summary – Joe Schaffer Jr. was the fastest car in time trials, but a 10-car invert before the start put Keith Medeiros at the point. Although Mullis had to start ninth, he quickly worked his way to the front and took the lead on lap 48. He never looked back from there en route to the win, but a flurry of late cautions forced him to hold off Zack Novak and Schaffer Jr., who finished second and third respectively.

Pole Award – Joe Schaffer Jr. posted the fast time in the time trial session with a lap of 15.169 seconds, setting a new track record.

Hard Charger – After being forced to take a provisional to make the race, Kyle Souza started 26th on the grid and finished 5th.

Rookie of the Race – Zack Novak started mid-pack in 16th, and worked his way towards the front to finish in the runner-up position.

Title Fight – The opening night victory puts Jimmy Mullis atop the standings by 5 points over Joe Schaffer Jr.

Up Next – The TUNDRA Super Sim Series presented by LOKOTOCO Designs will move to Iowa Speedway next Thursday night for the running of the Midwest Powersource 100.
