As the season winds down for The Button Box Shop Super Series, the division headed to the Irwindale Speedway for their penultimate race with the Car Show Show Irwindale 150.

Race Winner – For the first 102 laps, it was Derek Holzhausen who held off Ty Majeski out front for the race lead, but during a long green flag run, Matt Rolfe was able to work his way towards the front and used the extreme inside lane in the corners to make up ground. Rolfe battled with Majeski for nearly 30 laps before gaining the advantage, and then worked his way under Holzhausen and took over the lead on lap 103. Rolfe went on to extend his lead out to over 4 seconds during the final 48 laps to pick up his 2nd win of the season and his 24th career SARA victory.

Dean’s Satellite & Security Pole Award – Ty Majeski beat Bill Martin’s previous track record by .002 seconds with a lap of 16.531 seconds to earn the pole.

Hard Charger – 19th to 10th (+9) – Mark Royer started back in 19th and slowly worked his way up to battle around the 10th spot for the final 50 laps, and ended the night with a 10th place finish, his 2nd career Super Series top ten finish.

Biggest Loser – 3rd to 16th (-13) – David Krikorian’s string of six-straight top ten finishes in the Super Series came to an end when he was battling around the 8th spot just before halfway and got tangled with Derek Robinson.

Rookie of the Race – 2nd Place – Matt Kocher continued his impressive rookie season with another podium finish, using the high line up against the wall to get to the front for a runner-up finish.

Title Fight – After Matt Rolfe’s victory, he became the fourth different driver in the last four races to lead the points standings. Matt Kocher’s 2nd place run kept him alive as he sits just 9 points behind Rolfe, while Derek Robinson drops from the lead down to 3rd in the standings after his incident during the race, but stays mathematically alive at 16 points behind. Next week these top three drivers will battle it out for the championship in a 200-lap fight at Lanier.

Triple Crown – Going into the night, Derek Holzhausen led the Triple Crown points by just 1 point over Joe Schaffer Jr. Holzhausen led much of the event before sliding back to 3rd, while Schaffer was making up ground, but could only get as high as 4th. Holzhausen would pick up the Triple Crown Championship with a combined 6 points in the three events. Schaffer finished 2nd, Rolfe 3rd, Kocher 4th, and Trevor Edwards 5th, each splitting up the $40 Triple Crown purse.

HidesPride.com Rising Star – The Rising Star award was up for grabs for a total of 7 drivers who competed in the 2016 Fall Season race at Irwindale, and could gain the most positions from last season’s finish to this season’s. Scott Dunlap finished 24th last fall, and with an 11th place run he picked up the most positions of eligible drivers with a +13, earning him the $30 Rising Star prize.
