Different Rafferty, Same Result With Lanier Win

On Monday night, the DonutsDesigns.com Open Wheel Series returned to Lanier, this time for a 45-lap feature with the 360 Non-Wing Sprint cars.

Race Winner – Newcomer Bobby Rafferty used a well time slider for second place, at the same time that race leader Dave Bodio got into the wall, and Rafferty would inherit the lead with 12 to go and held on for his first SARA victory.

Race Summary – Clay Snider led the field to the green flag and led the opening laps of the race until Dante Curtis used the low groove to gain he advantage. Curtis’ lead up front looked comfortable until a lap 21 restart that allowed Dave Bodio to gain some ground, and the two would battle it out side-by-side for nearly 10 laps. The two swapped the lead a handful of times before Bodio eventually began to pull away. That all changed when Bodio jumped the cushion and hit the wall, while behind him Bobby Rafferty used a slider on Curtis just as the caution flew, handing him the lead. Rafferty held off the field in the final laps to score the win in his first race.

Heat Winners – Bobby Rafferty moved up from 2nd to win Heat Race 1, while Dave Bodio led every lap to win Heat Race 2.

Hard Charger – Joe Schaffer Jr. started at the tail of the field, ran a quiet race, and eventually moved up 8 spots to finish in 7th.

360 Non-Wing Sprints Title Fight – Dave Bodio entered the night with a solid points lead but after his incident his lead shrinks down to just two points over Dante Curtis.

Combined Points Title Fight – The top three in the combined points were seperated by just three points before the night, but with a solid run Dante Curtis extends that up to 12 points.

Up Next – Next week the series will have both cars on track at Volusia for a double header event.
