This past Tuesday night, the Sprint Series and the 360 Non-Wing Sprint cars traveled to Lakeland, Florida for the USA Nationals. The race was originally scheduled as a 35-lap green flag feature but some early cautions raised some concerns about fuel would see official drop it down to a 30-lap race.

Race Winner – For most of the race it looked like Kenneth Drake was going to make it three in a row as he held a solid lead. But in the late laps, David Krikorian started posting a charge and with three laps to go, Krikorian would get a big run to the outside of Drake which appeared to surprise him as he slid up into Krikorian, making contact and Drake would get spun around. Krikorian would take over the top spot, and held off one last attempt by AJ Bower to steal the lead, but “DK” would hold on for his first dirt win, and his 23rd career SARA win.

Heat Winners – Kenneth Drake and Zak Rounds both picked up Heat Race victories.

Hard Charger – AJ Bower started deep in the pack from the 13th spot and was able to avoid most of the trouble all night and finished in the 2nd spot after putting up a last-lap effort at the lead.

Biggest Losers – Zak Rounds and Clay Snider each started up towards the front of the field, but would both get collected in incidents that dropped them 7 spots each to finish 10th and 13th, respectively.

Title Fight – After Krikorian’s victory, and the late trouble for Drake, the two would swap spots in the points and now Krikorian leads by 7 points heading into next week’s double header at Eldora with the Winged Sprint cars joining the fun.
