This past Monday night, the DonutsDesigns.com Open Wheel Series saw both the 360 Non-Wing Sprints and the UMP Modifieds take on the Volusia Speedway Park for a double header.
360NW Race Winner – Dillon Raffurty got by Derek Robinson just before halfway and never looked back to take his 9th SARA win.
360NW Race Summary – Derek Robinson started up front on the pole after the Pole Handicap, and held control of the first 18 laps, leading at one point by over 1.5 seconds in the early laps. But shortly after a couple restarts, Dillon Raffurty was making his move and took over on lap 19, and he would go on to take the victory after leading the final 22 laps.
UMP Race Winner – Raffurty quickly made his way to the front of the field from 8th to 1st in 12 laps and went on to add his 10th victory, sweeping the night.
UMP Race Summary – Ty Spearman led the UMP Modified field to the green flag and led the opening laps before a battle took place out front as both Davey Scovel and Dillon Raffurty looked to take over. Scovel led lap 11, but Raffurty nosed ahead to lead lap 12 by just .009 seconds and then gained the advantage as he would go on for the victory.
360 Non-Wing Sprints Title Fight – After a scoring error by league admins, Dave Bodio was credited with enough points to hang onto the points lead after 4 events, and leads by 6 points over Dante Curtis.
UMP Modifieds Title Fight – With his 3rd victory in as many UMP races, Dillon Raffurty holds the commanding points lead in the division.
Combined Points Title Fight – Dante Curtis had two solid finishes on the night and maintains the combined series points standings, but the lead shrinks down to 8 points over Chris Watkins.
Up Next – Another double header is on tap for the series as both divisions will travel together to Eldora.
