Martin Returns To Victory Late For 10th IRP Win

Callaway Investments Sportsman Series – Street Stocks – Race 3 – May 29, 2018 – Lucas Oil Raceway

Last Tuesday night, the Lucas Oil Raceway played host to the Callaway Investments Sportsman Series for a 75-lap feature event for the third race of the season.

Race Summary – Adam Josselyn led the field to the green flag after the full 10-car invert, but Kyle Souza took over the top spot early on lap 8. But as the caution flag flew throughout the night, restarts became important and Bill Martin used the outside groove on the lap 28 restart and was able to nose ahead into the lead. Martin was able to hold off the field for the rest of the night, leading 48 laps to pick up his 54th career SARA victory, and his 10th at IRP.

Race Winner – Bill Martin – Qualified 4th, started 7th (invert), 48 laps led

Top Five – 2nd Joe Schaffer Jr., 3rd Kyle Souza, 4th Cody Kelley, 5th Evan Sorensen

Hard Charger – Andrew Cardinale & Russell Berry (+13 Positions each)

Top Rookie – Andrew Cardinale (9th)

Pole Winner – Cody Kelley (24.775 seconds)

Points Battle – A runner-up finish on the night extends Schaffer’s points lead up to 35 points over Kyle Souza after three events so far.

Up Next – The Sportsman Series if off this week but will return next week on June 12th for the first EastWest Modifieds Triple Crown event for the Tour Modifieds.
