Schaffer Holds On For First Langely Win

On Monday night, the Callaway Investments Sportsman Series took on the Langley Speedway for a 100-lap race in the Hampton 100.

Race Winner – Bill Martin started up front after the invert but led just two laps before Cody Kelley took over the lead. Out front, Kelley led the next 25 laps while Joe Schaffer Jr. was all over his rear bumper and a slight bump-and-run moved Kelley up the track and Schaffer would take over the lead. Schaffer would then go on to hold off Matt Rolfe, and Matt Kocher after a late restart and held off both drivers to pick up his 31st career SARA victory. The win was Schaffer’s first of the season, and his first career win at Langley.

Pole Award – Tim Bills added his 39th career SARA pole, and 2nd pole of the season with a lap of 16.733 seconds.

Hard Charger – Charlie Melvin started in the 15th spot and finished inside the top ten in 8th, gaining 7 spots on the night.

Rookie of the Race – Charlie Melvin was the top Rookie of the night, finishing 8th in his first career SARA start.

Title Fight – Tim Bills finished inside the top five and took sole possession of the points lead after entering the night in a tie, and now leads Trevor Edwards by 4 points.

Up Next – The series will head to the Southern National Motorsports Park for a 100-lap race in the 8th event of the season.
