The PSN Pro Series East made a trip out west for their first road course event of the season, at the Sonoma Raceway. The event would go off for 33 laps, with the field getting a competition yellow at lap 10.
Derek Robinson showed his strength early in practice, and backed it up in qualifying, picking up the pole by .7 over Matt Rolfe. Robinson would break Rolfe’s streak of 4 straight pole starts in the K&N series.
Again, Robinson wouldn’t waste anytime in the race, showing his muscle as he jumped out to a commanding lead over the rest of the field in the early laps. Rolfe would follow in second as points leader Scott Bolester, Sean Medling, and Clay Snider would battle it out for the top 5 spots.Bolester would eventually take that spot away from Snider and would eventually move up to second place just before the competition yellow after Rolfe went off track on lap 8.
After the caution, Robinson took off like a rocket and was clearly the class of the field. Sean Medling would inherit second place after the restart, and held off a charging Bolester as the laps wound down, but neither had anything for the leader. Robinson would go on to sail to victory by over a full minute over the rest of the field.
The win would be Robinson’s first Pro Series victory and his 15th career SARA victory. Medling would finish second, Bolester 3rd, with Snider and Mike Belanger finishing off the top 5.
Bolester would extend his point lead to 11 points over Belanger. Next week the series heads to the short track of Langley.
