On Wednesday night, the Dirt Late Model Series kicked off with a 75 lap race in the Eldora Summer Open, where 32 drivers looked to qualify for the 24-car starting grid. Three Heat Races would set the front half of the field taking the top four from each heat, and then 20 cars were sent to the B-Main which took 12 drivers to set the remainder of the field.

Race Winner – Bruce Perry started up front after the Pole Shuffle and led 5 laps, before Stefan Marinak took over for 5 laps himself. But it was Ty Spearman that quickly charged from 5th to 1st and took over the lead by lap 11. While other drivers were charging from deeper in the field, Spearman jumped out to the lead and dominated the night to pick up his first career SARA dirt win, and his 22nd overall SARA victory.

Heat Winners – Ty Spearman climbed from 4th to to win Heat 1, Stefan Marinak led from the green to win Heat 2, while Dante Curtis avoided some incidents in Heat 3 to go from 6th to 1st. Travis McKinney would win the B-Main from the 4th position.

Hard Charger – After missing the heat races and having to start at the tail of the B-Main in the 20-car field, Adam Benefiel would take the final transfer spot into the A-Main, and then charged from 24th all the way up into a top five finish, gaining 19 spots in the A-Main.

Biggest Loser – Trevor Edwards started from the 4th position but a tough break on lap 2 turned him around in front of the field, which certainly didn’t end well for him, and his night would be over early with a 24th place finish.

Title Fight – After the dominating win, Ty Spearman looks to be an early favorite in the Late Model Series, but others behind him look to have a lot of speed as well which could make things interesting throughout the season.
