Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 4 – March 13, 2019 – South Boston Speedway

The Contender Series took on SoBo, and nearly 60 cars unloaded their Super Late Models at the track and were split up into three separate 150-lap feature events.

Race 1 Summary – Daniel Silvestri led Race 1 to the green and jumped out int the early lead. He looked strong out front, pulling away by over two seasons on a couple of longer runs, but the lead was erased with a couple late cautions. The final restart set up a green-white-checkered finish, but this time Silvestri couldn’t get the advantage as Davey Riendeau got a strong restart on the outside. They continued to battle side-by-side for the lead, but some tight racing led to contact, between the top three cars, sending Silvestri around on the final lap, while Riendeau was able to power around the outside to the finish to pick up his first career SARA victory on a late pass.

Race 2 Summary – While the other two races featured some tight battles up front, it was a different story in Race 2. Riley Stenjem led the field to green, and he and Max Cookson were able to separate themselves from the pack as the cars behind them battled for 3rd for much of the race. Cookson was able to hang within a couple car lengths of the leader for a handful of laps on each run, but eventually Stenjem pulled away and extended the gap out front. During the final 50 laps, Stenjem extended the lead out to nearly two seconds as he went on to add his 3rd win of the season.

Race 3 Summary – The 3rd feature saw Ryan Blanchard lead the field to green, but it was James Mihlbachler that used the outside to take the top spot on lap 1. For the rest of the event, the top runners couldn’t separate themselves, with Mihlbachler having to hold off the field all race long. Blanchard held 2nd for 55 laps before Kyle Souza took over, and it was during the final 50 laps where the battle heated up. Souza kept looking to make a run on the high side, with Moreau putting pressure from the bottom groove. But with 2nd and 3rd battling behind him, Mihlbachler was able to hold them both off and went on to take his first career SARA win.

Hard Chargers – Ryan Lange (Race 1, +13 pos.), Chris Suggs (Race 2, +7 pos. each), Paul Clark (Race 3, +8 pos.)

Pole Winner – Daniel Silvestri (14.049 seconds)

Points Battle – A 3rd victory on the season for Riley Stenjem brings his points lead up to 25 points heading into Round 5 at Irwindale Inner.
